One of the most important ingredients in our soap is this amazing substance called Goat Milk. Until I am able to get my own goats, I always purchase fresh milk from a friend. I was blessed recently when another friend got in touch with me and asked if I would like to milk her goats that she was getting ready to wean the kids off of. I gladly agreed!
You guys, I know this may seem silly, but, although I make goat milk soap, I’ve never milked a goat. So this was an enjoyable experience for me. I was worried I wouldn’t get the hang of it, but I did!! The goat I learned on was a beautiful Nubian named Dolly. She was a persnickety thing. She liked kicking, so I had to keep a good hold on the milk pan. The next goat I milked was Marabelle, she was a sweet Alpine/Lamancha cross with only one good udder. But boy was it a good udder. She gave me as much milk from that one udder as I got from both of Dolly’s udders.
In all, I got just under a gallon, and I can’t wait to soap some of it this weekend!!
